Your Search for Amazing Skincare and Haircare in One Chino Salon is Over

I need to tell you about something that drives me crazy.

You have a hair stylist you love. But then you have to drive to a completely different place for facials. And neither of them knows what the other one is doing. Your esthetician has no idea you just got highlights. Your stylist has no idea you're dealing with sensitive skin from a recent facial.

It's inefficient and honestly kind of annoying.

I'm Jenna, I'm an esthetician at Rock Paper Scissors in Chino, and the whole reason I'm here is so you don't have to do that anymore. You can get your hair done and your skincare done in the same place, by people who actually talk to each other about what's going on with you.

Let me explain why that matters and what I actually do here.

Why Having Hair and Skin Services in One Place Actually Makes Sense

Most salons are either good at hair or good at skin. Not both. We decided to do both because it makes your life easier and it gives you better results.

If you're getting a big color service, I can make sure your skin is prepped and calm beforehand so you're not dealing with irritation. If you're getting hair extensions, I can adjust your skincare routine so the products you use on your face don't interfere with the bonds in your hair.

It's just more coordinated. And honestly, it saves you time because you're not driving all over the place.

I had a client a few months ago, Andrea, who was driving to Rancho Cucamonga for facials and then coming back to Chino for her hair. She finally asked if we did skincare here and when I said yes, she looked so relieved. She said, "Thank God. I'm so tired of spending my whole Saturday in the car."

Now she comes in, gets a facial with me, and then gets her hair done by one of the stylists. She's in and out in a few hours and she doesn't have to coordinate two different appointments at two different places.

That's the whole point.

What Kind of Facials I Do

I don't do cookie cutter facials where everyone gets the same thing. Your skin is different than everyone else's skin, and it changes depending on what's going on in your life, the weather, your stress level, all of it.

When you come in, we sit down and talk first. I need to know what's bothering you about your skin. Is it dry? Oily? Breaking out? Dull? Sensitive? What have you tried? What worked and what didn't?

Then I look at your skin under a magnifying lamp so I can see what's actually going on, not just what you think is going on. Sometimes people come in thinking they have one issue and it turns out they have something completely different.

Based on that, I customize the facial for what your skin needs right now.

Some of the most common things I do:

Custom facials where I'm just addressing whatever your skin needs that day. This is the most popular option because it's flexible.

Anti aging facials for people who want to focus on fine lines, firmness, and overall texture. We use ingredients and techniques that boost collagen and improve elasticity.

Acne facials for both teens and adults. This is about deep cleaning, calming inflammation, and teaching you how to take care of your skin at home so you're not constantly breaking out.

Hydrating facials for people whose skin is dry and tight. This is really common here because the air in Southern California is so dry. I drench your skin in moisture and help restore the protective barrier.

Brightening facials for sun damage and uneven skin tone. If you have dark spots or your skin just looks dull, this helps even things out and bring back some brightness.

I also do seasonal facials where I'm specifically addressing whatever the weather is doing to your skin. When the Santa Ana winds hit in the fall, everyone's skin freaks out. I adjust what I'm doing based on that.

Why Skincare in Southern California Is Different

I can't just do generic facials and expect them to work here. The climate in Southern California does specific things to your skin that you don't deal with in other places.

The air is dry almost all year. The sun is intense. The water is hard, which means it has a lot of minerals in it that can clog your pores and dry out your skin.

And then there are the Santa Ana winds, which strip all the moisture out of your skin in like one afternoon. People come in after a windy day and their skin is red, irritated, and feels tight.

I have to factor all of that in when I'm treating your skin. I'm not just following some textbook protocol. I'm adjusting for the fact that you live here and your skin is dealing with these specific environmental issues.

I also spend a lot of time talking to clients about sun protection because the sun here is no joke. You can age your skin really fast if you're not protecting it properly.

What Actually Happens During a Facial

If you've never had a facial before, or you're nervous about coming in, here's what the process looks like.

First, we talk. I need to know what you're dealing with and what you want to fix. This isn't a sales pitch. I'm just gathering information so I can figure out what your skin needs.

Then I analyze your skin under a magnifying lamp. This lets me see things you can't see in a regular mirror, like clogged pores, dehydration, sun damage, all of it.

Then I start the actual facial. I cleanse your skin, exfoliate it to get rid of dead skin cells, do extractions if you have clogged pores or blackheads (this is the part that's uncomfortable but necessary), do a facial massage to boost circulation, apply a mask that's targeted to what your skin needs, and then finish with serums, moisturizer, and sunscreen.

The whole thing takes about an hour.

At the end, we talk about what you should be doing at home. I'll recommend products if you need them, but I'm not going to push you to buy a bunch of stuff you don't need. I'd rather you have a simple routine that you'll actually do than a complicated one that you'll give up on in two weeks.

Teenage Skin Is Its Own Thing

I get a lot of teenage clients, usually because their parents bring them in after they've been struggling with acne and nothing from the drugstore is working.

Teenage skin is tricky because hormones are all over the place and that causes breakouts. But a lot of teens are also using way too many harsh products because they think that's what they need to clear their skin up.

My approach with teens is to be gentle but effective. We do a facial that deep cleans and calms the skin without stripping it or making it worse. And then I teach them how to take care of their skin at home.

I had a 16 year old come in last year, her mom made the appointment, and the girl was so embarrassed about her acne. Her skin was red and irritated because she'd been using all these harsh scrubs and spot treatments.

I did a really gentle facial, explained why her current routine was making things worse, and gave her a simple plan to follow at home. She came back a month later and her skin was so much better. She was smiling and making eye contact, which she hadn't done the first time.

That's the part of the job I love. Helping someone feel better about themselves.

Combining Hair and Skin Services

One of the best things about having an esthetician in a hair salon is that we can coordinate services.

You can come in and get a facial and a blowout on the same day. Or a facial and color. Or a facial and a haircut. Whatever you need.

This is especially good for special events. If you have a wedding or a big party coming up, we can schedule your facial a week before so your skin is calm and glowing, and then do your hair the day of the event.

We also do bridal packages where we're doing multiple facials leading up to the wedding, plus hair trials, plus the actual wedding day hair and makeup. It's all coordinated so you're not scrambling around trying to book five different people at five different places.

I had a bride last spring who did a series of facials with me in the months leading up to her wedding, and then on the wedding day she got her hair done by one of the stylists here. Everything was in one place. She was relaxed, her skin looked amazing, her hair was perfect. She told me later that having everything coordinated made the whole experience so much less stressful.

How Often You Actually Need Facials

Most people should get a facial about once a month. That aligns with your skin's natural cell turnover cycle, and it keeps your skin looking good consistently.

If you're dealing with something specific like acne or hyperpigmentation, you might need to come in more often at first, like every two or three weeks, until we get it under control. Then you can space it out to once a month.

If you can't afford monthly facials or you just don't want to commit to that, even quarterly facials are better than nothing. I'd rather see you every three months than not at all.

What to Expect After Your First Facial

Your skin is going to look and feel better immediately. It'll be cleaner, smoother, more hydrated, and it'll have a glow to it.

But one facial isn't going to fix long term issues like sun damage or deep wrinkles. That takes consistency. You need regular facials plus a good home care routine to see real, lasting change.

Some people experience breakouts after their first facial, especially if we did a lot of extractions. This is called purging, and it's temporary. Your skin is getting rid of stuff that was clogged in your pores. It usually clears up in a few days.

If your skin is sensitive, you might have some redness after the facial, but I do everything I can to calm your skin before you leave so that's minimal.

The Products You Actually Need

I'm not going to push you to buy ten different products. Most people only need a few basics: a good cleanser, a moisturizer, and sunscreen. That's it.

If you have specific issues, we can add in a serum or a treatment product, but I'd rather you have a simple routine that you'll stick with than a complicated one that you'll abandon.

I also don't care what brand you use as long as it works for your skin. I can recommend products, but if you find something at Target that works for you, great. Use that.

The only thing I'm really strict about is sunscreen. You have to wear sunscreen every day if you live here. The sun will age your skin faster than anything else.

When You Should See a Dermatologist Instead

I'm an esthetician, not a doctor. There are some things I can't treat.

If you have severe cystic acne, you need to see a dermatologist. They can prescribe medication that I can't.

If you have a weird mole or a skin growth that's changing, you need to see a dermatologist to get it checked out.

If you have a skin condition like rosacea or eczema, I can help manage it with facials and product recommendations, but you should also be working with a dermatologist.

I'll always be honest with you about what I can and can't do. If I think you need to see a doctor, I'll tell you.

Should You Come See Me?

If you're dealing with skin issues and you're tired of trying random products from the drugstore that don't work, yeah, come see me.

If you want facials but you don't want to drive all over the place, come see me.

If you're already getting your hair done here and it would be convenient to get skincare done at the same time, come see me.

If you're not sure what your skin needs and you want someone to look at it and give you honest advice, come see me.
